2017 Ford Focus Electric Gets New Battery

Wednesday, December 28th, 2016

KBB 10 Best Back to School CarsInformation for the 2017 Ford Focus Electric has finally been released and the updates are definitely exciting. Where the former Focus Electric has a range of just 76 miles, the 2017 model gets a huge boost for a much more versatile range of 115 miles on a single charge.

This is the rating that was projected at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, though official EPA estimates haven’t been released yet. The Focus Electric also got a small boost in energy efficiency, going from 105 MPGe to 107.

The battery pack is brand new with a powerful 33.5 kWh that keep the Focus Electric in competition with other segment vehicles like the Nissan LEAF. The motor, according to Ford, is the same as the 2016 model – a 107 kW electric motor.

The exterior of the Focus Electric is the same as the previous models, though the charging port cover is bigger and more oblong than the previous round version. It also has a fast-charging option that wasn’t available on the 2016 model.

Not much else has been released about the new Focus Electric, but the boost in range plus the general popularity of the Focus is sure to make this one of the biggest electric cars of 2017.

2014 Ford Focus Given Awards as One of the Safest Cars

Late in the game, the 2014 Ford Focus continues to make waves due to its exceptional safety. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded the 2014 Focus with an Overall Rating of five stars in their New Car Assessment Program, which is the most a car can earn overall by the NHTSA. Of note in this assessment was the stability control and anti-lock braking system, which watches for road conditions and applies subtle engine power adjustments and braking to keep all wheels firmly planted on the ground.

2014 Ford FocusIn addition, the 2014 Ford Focus has also earned the “Top Safety Pick” from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). IIHS noted the 2013 addition of a driver knee airbag “designed to minimize knee injuries in frontal crashes.” The Focus is also constructed from high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel which keeps the force of impact away from all occupants in the vehicle.

Ford Focus Remains Global Best-Seller; Brand Celebrates with All-New Sedan

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2014

When the Polk new vehicle registration data came out last month, Ford tore open the report to read it as quickly as a kid opening presents on Christmas morning. And, just like those kids, the things they found inside the report were anything but disappointing. The results are in, and, once again, the Ford Focus is the best-selling nameplate across the world.

How did the Blue Oval elect to celebrate this continued achievement? By making an all-new, even more improved version of the Focus, of course! The new Focus, on display right now at the New York International Auto Show, promises to sell even more units than the 1,097,618 sold in 2013.

“It is remarkable to see Focus again lead the industry as the No. 1-selling vehicle nameplate on the planet,” said Jim Farley, Ford executive vice president, Ford Motor Company Global Marketing, Sales and Service and Lincoln. “With the new car, we’ve raised the bar again, showcasing Ford’s commitment to continuous improvement – adding better technology for drivers and a sleeker, more modern exterior across the entire Focus family.”

Ford Adds New EcoBoost Engine to 2015 Ford Focus

Monday, March 3rd, 2014

What do you do to make the world’s best-selling nameplate even better? Well, if you’re Ford, and that best-selling nameplate is the Ford Focus, you give it a little makeover for the 2015 engine and stick a brand new EcoBoost engine under the hood. The result is something we at Hassett Automotive once thought impossible: an improvement on perfection.

The Ford Focus undergoes a slight redesign for the 2015 year. On the outside, the lines get sleeker and more streamlined and the design language shifts to be closer in conversation to that of other recent Ford vehicles. The hood, grille, and trunk lid all see specific changes. The interior is all-new, too—with exclusive and innovative color palettes, improved storage design and increased storage space.

It’s that new engine that really puts the next-year Focus over the top—or, more factually, promises to keep the Focus on top of the world. With an all-new 1.0L EcoBoost engine, the 2015 Ford Focus will once again raise the bar for fuel economy among compact cars.

“The 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine is proof that excellent fuel economy and performance can come in one package,” said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, global product development. “Focus is already known for bringing together efficiency and fun, and our latest addition will bring consumers a whole new level of enjoyment – on the road and at the pump.”
