How to Prepare Your Car for Vacation

Prepare Your Car for Vacation

Prepare Your Car for Vacation by checking your tire treads – hold a penny in your treads, and if you can see the top of Abe’s head, you need new tires!

Summer is a time for families and friends to head out on the open and take a summer vacation the adults likely need. When your car breaks down on the road, it can put a bad spin on a time meant to create bonds and memories that will last a lifetime. We here at Hassett Pre-Owned have a few tips to help prepare your car for vacation and leave you with a positive experience!

  1. Battery – A bad battery is a common cause for calls to roadside assistance. Before you hit the road, take a look at the color of the inspection window on the top of the case to ensure you have enough fluid. Make sure there’s no cracks, hole, bumps, or bulges as well! It doesn’t hurt to scrape away corrosion either.
  2. Tires – A flat tire doesn’t take long to change and many drivers can do it themselves. Tires with low tread are a different story. Not having enough tread can lead to sliding off the road, reduced handling, and can even hurt your fuel efficiency. Make sure your tires have enough tread for the trip and be sure they’re properly inflated.
  3. Fluids – While you could check all your fluids at home, it might be best to have your car professionally inspected instead. A mechanic or technician will check all your fluids, top them off if needed, and could spot any indicators of trouble that need attending to.
