Ford Police Interceptor is the Most Fuel-Efficient Police Car

Friday, November 29th, 2013

Though police activity in film seems to be almost exclusively comprised of high-speed car chases, reality can be a lot different. Most police officers never need to go that fast and, in fact, some know they never will. So it’s usually a good idea to apply the same environmentally-conscious philosophy to police cars as the one that applies to consumer cars and make them as fuel-efficient as possible.

Ford’s Police Interceptor sedan does just that by offering a fuel-efficient 2.0-liter EcoBoost inline four-cylinder engine in addition to its regular V6s. This Special Service Police Sedan is not pursuit-rated and is instead aimed at law enforcement agencies who don’t need the extra power, such as college campus police and detectives. This will allow them to save thousands of dollars in the long run by cutting fuel costs.

The sedan is certified with an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 20 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway, with a combined rating of 24 mpg, making it the most fuel-efficient police sedan out there.

Of course, we don’t sell police interceptors here at Hassett Automotive, but we do sell even more fuel-efficient Ford vehicles such as the all-new 2014 Fiesta. Come by to check it out!

Subaru Indiana Zero-Landfill for Ten Years

Tuesday, November 5th, 2013

In an industry that is moving towards becoming more eco-friendly than ever before, carmakers are becoming more aware of the effects their methods of production might have on the environment. Subaru Indiana started the movement towards less wasteful production when they became the first ever zero-landfill car manufacturing company in North America in 2003. Now, the plant takes environmental awareness even further by celebrating ten years of being zero-landfill.

“If it doesn’t leave as a finished car, we send the material offsite for recycling,” said Denise Coogan, Subaru Indiana Manager of Safety & Environmental Compliance. “So anything from our cafeteria waste, plastics, steel. Waste is just a material that hasn’t found its use.”

Becoming a more environmentally aware company is considered part of becoming a modern company, according to Tom Easterday, Executive VP of Subaru Indiana. By setting this example, proving that a large plant can easily be as environmentally friendly as this one, Subaru Indiana hopes to turn the Midwest from being known as “The Rust Belt” to “The Green Belt.”

Lincoln “How-to” Video Series: Adaptive Cruise Control

Friday, November 1st, 2013

A couple months ago we did a blog that talked a little bit about Lincoln’s new Youtube channel called “Lincoln Owner.” This channel is loaded with helpful How-to videos that cover everything from how to work the infotainment system in new Lincolns, to how to work the sunroof. Well today we’d like to share another helpful video that we’re sure will come in handy for you new Lincoln owners out there! Check out the video below to see how to work the adaptive cruise control in new Lincoln vehicles.

Pretty amazing, isn’t it? Gone are the days of having to quickly turn off the cruise control when you come up on some slow-poke in your lane. Your new Lincoln now has the technology to match the speed of the car in front of you, and then resume your set speed when the car moves out of the way.

Keep checking our blog in the coming weeks and months for more helpful tips! And remember – if you ever have any questions about how to work a certain feature in your new Lincoln, Ford or Subaru you can always stop by Hassett Automotive to speak with one of our friendly sales team members.

Subaru Forester Named Best SUV by Motor Trend

Friday, October 4th, 2013

Most of you probably already know that Motor Trend gives out awards every year to the best car, truck and SUV. They put each and every new car through the ringer to see which ones are the best overall. But what you may not know is that the 2014 Forester has been named the Sport/Utility vehicle of the year! And as if that wasn’t cool enough, this award gives Subaru the “hat trick” in the SUV category. In other words, Subaru has received this honor two other times, in 2009 with the Forester and in 2010 with the Outback (more than any other manufacturer). Well done, Subaru!

According to Motor Trend, “The redesigned 2014 Subaru Forester has better efficiency, added power, and increased cargo volume, without a significant increase in overall size. The new Forester provides a comfortable ride with a roomy interior. Its off-road capability is plenty for the majority of sport/utility buyers. It offers a lot of value for the money. And it accomplishes all this while still being fun to drive.”

If you’re interested in learning more about the 2014 Subaru Forester, feel free to stop by Hassett Automotive in Wantagh! Any one of our sales team members would love to answer all your questions about this award-winning SUV.

Ford Wins Second Consecutive Engine of the Year Award!

Wednesday, September 25th, 2013

If you drive a Ford car, truck, or SUV, then you know first-hand that Ford makes some great engines. But would you have guessed that for the past two years a Ford engine has been named the “International Engine of the Year”, beating out brands like Audi, Mercedes, and Porsche? All we have to say is – Well done, Ford!!

According to an article on Autoblog, “A panel of 87 automotive journalists from 35 countries are responsible for choosing the world’s best engines, and this is only the third time an automaker has managed back-to-back victories. Voters were impressed by the “Baby EcoBoost” engine’s power output – 123 horsepower between 1,400 and 4,500 rpm, 148 pound-feet of torque from 1,400 to 4,000 rpm – and its compact size; Ford has demonstrated that the package is small enough to fit in the overhead bin of a passenger airplane.”

Currently the 1.0-liter ecoboost engine that won the award is only available in the European Fiesta, B-Max, Focus, C-Max and Grand C-Max. However, the engine will soon be available here in America in the new Ford Fiesta!

All of us here at Hassett are so excited to have the world’s best engine here at our dealership! Keep checking our blog, Facebook page and website for more updates. And if you’re looking for a good laugh, watch Frankfurt Motor Show correspondent Paco Erhard reveal the winner of this award to some Germans. It’s quite entertaining!

New Ford Transit Named ‘International Van of the Year 2014’

Thursday, September 12th, 2013

All of us here at Hassett are so excited to announce that the new Ford Transit was just named the ‘International Van of the Year 2014’! This really is exciting for Ford as this award makes Ford the first single manufacturer to win this award two years in a row. And beyond that, Ford has now made it very clear how serious they take commercial vehicles.

“The all-new Transit Connect has moved the game on for compact vans – and we are really proud to win this significant award again,” said Barb Samardzich, vice president of Product Development, Ford of Europe. “The new Transit Connect is just as tough and hard-working as all our commercial vehicle range, and comes with smart new looks and much lower fuel bills.”

If you’ve never driven a Ford transit Connect, they are very similar to cars in terms of comfort and efficiency – but that’s where the similarities stop. The Transit Connect is a ruggedly built truck, certified to Ford Light Commercial Vehicle Durability Standards, providing a maximum payload of 1,600 lbs. and up to 129.6 cu. ft. of cargo space. It’s no wonder why so many businesses count on the Transit Connect to deliver day-in and day-out.

Interested in getting one or two of these for your business? Stop by Hassett Automotive today! We have a great selection of Transit Connects and a service center to help keep them running strong for many, many years.

Lincoln Introduces New Trim Level at Pebble Beach

Monday, August 19th, 2013

Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is an annual auto show that focuses on luxury and elegance in automobiles. Then name “Concours d’Elegance” is literally translated to “a competition of elegance”, so needless to say, automakers from across the world head to Pebble Beach each year ready to show off their most elegant creations. Many car makers use this event as an opportunity to show off a new luxury car they’ve been working on; however, Lincoln took a different approach this year.

Instead of showing off a new luxury car, Lincoln decided to introduce a new trim level. At first this may sound strange, but with the new Black Label Collection, Lincoln is truly raising the bar for all luxury vehicles.

Essentially, the new Black Label will be the top trim level for new Lincoln cars. It will feature real premium materials such as genuine leathers and natural woods. According to a recent Lincoln press release, “Black Label was conceived and designed by a select Lincoln Design team to reflect the breadth of the brand. In its earlier days, Lincoln was a favorite vehicle for unique, sophisticated and luxurious bespoke exterior and interior themes. This has inspired a new direction to provide a higher level of luxury available to all clients of the brand – not just those who purchase the most expensive, top-of-range models.”

All of us here at Hassett are thrilled about this announcement and can’t wait until some Black Label cars are delivered to our dealership! If you’d like to learn more about the Black Label Collection, check out the full press release, or stop into Hassett Automotive in Wantagh, NY.

Summer Car Maintenance (Part 1)

Wednesday, June 26th, 2013

Summer is officially here! That means it’s time for warm weather, vacations, cookouts, and pool parties. However, it also means it’s the time of the year that your car hates that most. That’s right. Just when you thought summer was full of only awesome and fun things, we had to go spoil that for you. But wait! Even though summer can definitely be tough on your car, and even take years off its life, there are several things you can do to make sure your car is good-to-go for the hot summer months.

  • Check your tires. And we’re not only talking about the four tires at each corner of your car. Make sure you check your spare tire too! All five of your car’s tires should have adequate tread and air pressure. One fun and easy way to check tread is to stick a penny in the tread of the tire – if Abe’s head disappears, you’re golden!
  • Change oil and oil filter. I am just as guilty as anyone for procrastinating on an oil change. But what I didn’t realize is that oil is the lifeblood of your car! It’s what keeps all those moving parts moving correctly so you can get from point A to point B safely. Don’t wait! Get it done now at the beginning of summer.
  • This may seem obvious, but you need to de-winterize your car. In other words, if you put snow tires on your car for winter, take them off. It’s not winter anymore and this quick and painless change will save you lots of moolah at the gas pump.

We hope these tips are useful for you! Keep checking our blog for more tips coming in the next couple weeks. And always remember, Hassett is always here to help you with all your car maintenance needs. Stop by today and let us get your car up to snuff!
